I timed my zip line trip so that I had the benefit of shadow and a vacant floor to avoid being detected by anyone. My good fortune continued when I learned the balcony door was not locked, and it was not on the alarm system despite the warning sticker indicating otherwise. I wanted to make a quick exit, but the temptation to explore was too great.
It was as if they wanted me to investigate. I didn't see a "Welcome AcMo!" sign or anything like that, but everything was too easy. The vacant floor, the unlocked door, lax security sweeps, and the lack of an alarm all pointed to a setup, but I missed it. I had been studying the security team's procedure since the occupation started, and this was not normal, but I was too amped on adrenaline to utilize my keen wit and immense power of perception to warn me of impending danger. The mere fact I survived the trip without even so much as a simulated practice attempt made it hard for me to focus on anything but pure elation. I went into the enemy's lair and found more than I could have ever expected.
Omnicron Corp is a mysterious company. No website or contact information exists, and no one who should, knows what Omnicron does. I have long since believed it is a front for a covert agency, but I haven't been able to find proof of anything until now.
The door to the R&D lab was open. I saw detailed schematics of several of AcMo's unannounced future products, including diagrams of our t-shirts with notations indicating the steps required to turn them into exploders. A lot of questions started forming.
I have still not found my mole, but I did find where some or all of our information was being relocated. I knew I had a flight to catch, but the lure to investigate further was too great. They had snared me in their web, I just didn't know it yet. It would not be long before my eyes were opened to my precarious position.
I had thought ahead and ordered an Omnicron Corp uniform using the credit card of the board member I had put into the hospital. This entire chain of events was caused by his insistence on being paid. He wouldn't be connected back to me or AcMo because he now hated us. I stopped into the executive washroom--also unlocked--to change into my uniform. This bathroom was the nicest and cleanest I had ever seen. I did feel that the solid gold toilets, sinks, faucets, and pipes were all a bit much though. I understand why it's so important to become an executive now. It's for all of the perks. I suppose it's the same as being a successful congressperson: all of the perks without any of the hard work that is supposed to be required to achieve them. Sign me up.
I emerged from the bathroom wearing the Tuesday morning Omnicron Corp uniform. A single breasted navy blue Hugo Boss suit with a yellow and blue power tie. I don't mean to brag, but I could have been mistaken for a runway model when you factor in my all-star grille (face), welcoming smile, and sparkling eyes that hint at deep thoughts lurking in the darkest recesses of my brain. I think that is why several of the junior associates stared at me when I emerged from the wash room. Never mind the fact none of them had seen me enter, they all noticed me leaving. As I understood it, the junior associates are required to be seen and not heard, and they are never allowed to speak to executives unless written consent is granted at least one full business day before the speaking is to occur. That gave me the confidence to stare down my nose at the underlings with my faked Ivy League superiority smirk as I breezed past them and out the front door leaving them all to wonder if I was the elusive founder of Omnicron Corp.
When I emerged from Omnicron, I should have been clear, but I was being watched. The shadow hovered over me, but I couldn't see or hear the source at the time. I would later discover it was a drone of AcMo's design that had not yet been cleared for production. I only know this because it followed me into restricted airspace and was shot down by the airport's anti-drone defense system. I recognized familiar details in the wreckage like my patented silent jet propulsion engine shroud, and the large AcMo logo on the fuselage. These thieves had no shame!
I couldn't let all of that drama interfere with my west coast trip. I had an empire to establish, and nothing short of a plane crash was going to stop me.
